My perfectly imperfect life

Tidy up my house, free up space in my head

When I was a kid, I hated doing mundane housework such as sweeping the house, washing dishes and glasses, tidying up my study corner and so on. It's not because it's hard. But I found them unimportant and didn't bring me any value. It didn't seem to help me getting getter grades or bring me new knowledge like reading and certainly not relaxing like watching TV or playing games. I found them a waste of time, and just got to do those when absolutely necessary. I got more important things to do.

Little did I know how wrong I was.

Being an adult and having my own house, there is even more mundane housework to do. But I love doing them now. When my head is throbbing, my mind is rumbling, I find getting to work around the house help to lift up my mood significantly. It helps to clear thoughts from my mind, free up more space in my head. I become calm and less irritating with the surrounding.

And then, I learn to love the house by taking care of it daily. You know, like loving a person, you need to get to know them. To know them, you have to interact with them daily to know their goods and their flaws, to know their latest well being, and know how to take care of them.

And then, it generally put everyone in the house in a good mood. A clean kitchen puts the cook in the good mood to cook something delicious. A tidy desk gives me the calm feeling when starting to work. A well-organised play space encourages children to explore and play with more toys.

Hence I realise I love tidying up now. I just used to reject my love for it because I feel it's such an unimportant and low value thing. But why did I even think important or high value should matter to love?
